Milford Sound

After a few days at sea we arrived at Fjordland National Park (entering Milford Sound first) and sailed into a foggy fjord around 8 AM. The weather was usual for that area - foggy, misty and cool. The walls of this Sound are steep, covered with lots of waterfalls (barely visible in the mist) and holds promise of beautiful scenery on a clearer day.

It was difficult to see the famous Mitre Peak through all the fog as we sailed far into the sound and then turned around and returned to the high seas.

There were a few passengers who were willing to pay the excursion fee of $1200 to take a boat to the town, bus further inland, stay overnight and then catch up with the ship in Dunedin.
