The ship arrived at the port of Lyttelton and we boarded our bus for a trip to Christchurch. After a short tour of the city, our first stop was Mona Vale which was a real treat on a beautiful Spring day. This is one of the places that gives Christchurch the name, 'The Garden City'. For more information go to Mona Vale From there we boarded our bus for a ride to a nearby hilltop from which we could see in all 4 directions, then back to Christchurch for a trolley ride to Cathedral Square.

After lunch at the Curator's House which is near the Botanical Gardens we went on a Punting trip down the Avon River. This was definitely one of the highlights of the visit to Christchurch. Our skilled guide maneuvered the flat bottomed boat (Punt) down the river pointing out various places of interest. Since it was such a beautiful day a number of the residents were also enjoying the river using a canoe or a kayak.

After this soothing ride we boarded our bus and returned to the ship. Our next stop was Picton.
