On Tuesday afternoon, Oct 9, 2007, we finally landed in Shanghai after a long flight from Chicago to start our Collette tour. We spent 2 days in Shanghai before flying to Yichang to get the boat on the Yangtze River. Our 4 day cruise included a peaboat ride on the Daning River, a visit to Wanxian, and ended in Chongqing on a rainy morning. That afternoon we flew to Guilin for a two day visit including a cart ride in Yangshou, a visit to the Chinese Art Institue, a visit to the Minority exhibit and show, and the Reed Flute Caves. From Guilin we went to Xian for two nights. Visiting the Terra-Cotta Warriers was the highlight of this visit. The next stop was Beijing for 3 nights and visits to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, a tea ceremony at the Imperial Tea House, the Great Wall, a walk along the Sacred Way of the Ming Tombs, a special Peking Opera show, visit to the Summer Palace and a lunch at a local family in the Hutong area of Beijing. Half of the group then went on to Hong Kong for 2 nights which included a visit to the fishing village of Aberdeen and a sampan ride, Stanley Market and Victoria Peak.

There were times when the Chinese sayings did not easily translate into English.
